Zakat Al-Mal as one pillar of Islam is an annual donation equal to 2.5% of your net income or savings. Zakat is obligatory on every Muslim in the world as Allah setup this standard for us. Do not forget to pay Zakat if you are capable as 2.5% is not much. Most people in California pay about 30% in taxes on income not net income.
